The wind howled across the cliffs of New Berk, carrying with it the scent of the sea and the echoes of a forgotten past. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III stood at the edge of the village, his gaze lost in the distant waves. It had been years since dragons vanished into the Hidden World, years since he had seen Toothless, his once-inseparable Night Fury companion. Yet, something in the air felt different today—something was coming.
A Call from the Hidden World
It began with a storm. A tempest unlike any the Vikings had ever seen. Lightning split the sky, and the ocean roared as if the gods themselves were at war. But what truly shook the village was the cry—an eerie, piercing wail carried by the winds. Not a dragon’s roar, nor a beast’s howl, but something unnatural.
Valka, Hiccup’s mother, was the first to recognize it.
“That sound… it’s a warning,” she said, her eyes filled with unspoken fear.
Goblins whispered of the ancient scourge, a threat long buried beneath the waves. Legends spoke of the Nyxdraka, an ancient predator of dragons, feared even by the mighty Bewilderbeast. It was said to consume not only dragons but the very fire within them, leaving nothing but husks behind.
When the first dragon skeletons washed ashore—blackened, drained, and lifeless—Hiccup knew he had no choice. He had to find Toothless.
A Dangerous Reunion
The journey to the Hidden World was perilous. With Astrid by his side and a small crew of dragon riders, Hiccup braved the treacherous sea once more. But the Hidden World was not as he had left it.
The glow of the bioluminescent caverns had dimmed, and the dragons were restless. Toothless, now the Alpha, emerged from the shadows, his once-playful gaze now sharp with concern. Beside him stood the Light Fury, her scales shimmering like the night sky.
Hiccup stepped forward, his heart pounding. “Toothless… I need you.”
There was no hesitation. The Night Fury let out a deep rumble, a silent acknowledgment of the bond they had never truly broken. Without another word, he leaped into the sky, his wings slicing through the darkness as if answering a call older than time itself.
The Battle for Fire
Back in New Berk, chaos erupted. The Nyxdraka had arrived. Towering over the village, its form was wreathed in shifting shadows, its body flickering between the physical and the ethereal. Its eyes, twin voids of hunger, fixed upon the dragons that had taken refuge in the cliffs. With a single, guttural growl, the beast exhaled a wave of darkness, extinguishing flames as if snuffing out stars.
Toothless and Hiccup descended like a comet, the bond between them reignited in the heart of battle. The clash was like none before—fire against shadow, speed against despair. The Nyxdraka was not just a predator; it was a force of nature. Every blast of plasma fire was absorbed into its abyssal form, every strike passing through it like mist.
But Hiccup had learned one thing in all his years—every creature, no matter how monstrous, had a weakness.
The Final Flight
As the village burned and the dragons faltered, Hiccup saw it—deep within the Nyxdraka, a core of flickering light. If they couldn’t fight the beast, they had to ignite it.
“Toothless, listen to me! We have to overload it!”
Understanding flashed between them, a silent pact forged in trust. With a powerful beat of his wings, Toothless shot into the sky, climbing higher than ever before. Hiccup clung to his back, his mind racing. This was it—one last flight.
Then, they dove.
The wind screamed around them as Toothless folded his wings, plummeting like a falling star. Hiccup ignited a flask of concentrated Gronckle Iron, hurling it into the beast’s core.
And then, Toothless fired.
The explosion tore through the night, light and fire consuming the Nyxdraka in a maelstrom of pure energy. The beast howled, its form shattering into embers, its darkness dispersing like morning mist. The battle was over.
A New Beginning
As the smoke cleared, Toothless landed softly on the charred ground, his gaze meeting Hiccup’s. There were no words—only understanding. The world had changed, but some bonds were eternal.
With dragons once more at their side, the people of New Berk rebuilt, stronger than before. And though Hiccup knew Toothless would return to the Hidden World, he also knew this wasn’t the end.
For as long as there were skies to soar and adventures to be had, the legend of the dragons would live on.
And so, with one last look, Toothless spread his wings.
